Stories and poems from Craigie High School, Dundee

Sydney

A poem for his wife, Jean

I am missing and being missed

I loved him so,

So very much indeed.

I miss our long walks in Perth

Away from our normal city life.

A Scottish lady and an English man

Walked together hand in hand.

A poem for Sydney

He misses her, I can see the emotion in his eyes.

He speaks of all his memories

A relationship of no lies.

Their love would last for centuries.

A child to whom he was very close,

A daughter named Sandra.

Long bike rides on wide roads

And walks on which she also joined.

Robin

I am a loving father,

I am a caring husband,

I have received the call

Now moving to Shanghai,

The wife, the child and all.

The friends that I am leaving

Are few and far between.

As soon as I have made some

It’s the last time they are seen.

Now I’ve moved to Greenock,

Homescroft is my school.

Being born in Hong Kong,

People think he’s cool.

Yvonne

I was a cheerful sister to Yvonne and Ted. I’ve been dead for 30 years now and unfortunately I don’t have many memories to shed. We weren’t very close in our younger years so we grew apart when we got older.

My sister was so cheerful and it was so sad to see her go, she loved her music and loved to sing along. We weren’t very close as life went on but I remember her wavy golden hair shining in the sun. She loved her medieval history and loved to teach it but sadly she is gone now.

Yvonne

She lost her sister Vivian, she died when she was 50. They were friends but didn’t see much of each other as they went to different schools. She doesn’t have many memories. Her sister was a singer and liked music. She had short wavy golden hair and was always happy. She worked as a history teacher. Yvonne misses her sister’s cheerfulness.

Yvonne was born and grew up in Devon. She liked to play the piano but not much now. She has 5 grandchildren, 2 children – a boy and a girl and has 2 friends, one of them she has known for 50 years. She sees her daughter and her children often but doesn’t see her son and his children a lot. She tried to teach her grandchildren how to play the piano but can’t play it now. She used to like gardening and walk guide dogs but can’t do it now as she has Parkinson’s disease.

She and her husband met in Cyprus in the air force. She worked in the kitchen and he was a pilot. After they met they didn’t see each other for months but then met up again when Turkey and Cyprus were fighting and they then got married in Cyprus and moved to Dundee. Her husband still likes to fly places but she only likes to read and hasn’t watched a movie for years.

A poem about Dorothy's mum

I was Dorothy’s mother from 1943,

I was very close with her until I had to leave.

Cancer took my life when she was just 18 years old.

She was far too weak but she had to be bold.

My name is Christina and I loved little kids,

I had 5 of them, they had to be big.

I loved going to the pictures to see what’s on

But after I died, Dorothy got close to her daddy John.

They say everyone loved me and I am dearly missed.

They say I was giving, loving and unselfish.

I had dark curly hair and I resembled my daughter,

I’m so sorry I had to leave her.

I wish I was there to make you feel better,

I know you wanted to die to make the pain a little lesser.

I’m sorry I had to go.

I am gone, it wasn’t my fault.

I’m sorry I had to go, my time was up.

You weren’t old. It’s time to go.

I know the grandkids miss me loads and you had to stay strong.

Your dad loved you loads, when I was gone.

You remembered the Toffs and how they adored you.

It made you really happy, like you used to be.

Nobody really understands how you feel when a loved one’s passed.

Then daddy died and it all went sad.

You couldn’t cope with it and you got quite mad.

The kids were a handful and so was your man,

Then he hit the kids and you got up and ran.

You made the right choice, you put their safety first,

You protected them even though it hurts.

Then you all grow up and gain some wisdom,

Then your brother fell ill with the same illness as mum.

He sadly died and that got you thinking,
